Frequently Asked Questions

Should I use 10 or 12 staves?

Use 12 if you want to fit as much as possible on a page. Use 10 if you write dynamics, fingering or lyrics, which need a bit more room around each staff.

What is staff paper?

Paper printed with sets of five lines (staves) for writing music notes. It's also called manuscript paper or blank sheet music.

Which line of guitar tab is the low E string?

The bottom line. Tab is drawn as if you were looking down at the guitar on your lap, so the thinnest string is on top.
